Lady Elizabeth "Beth" Ainsworth /
Lady Lucy Simpson
Date of Birth: 21 April 1787

Place of Birth: Dunblane Castle, Scotland

Age: 20 (currently as portrayed in "Echoes of a Distant Time")
Appearance: Lucy has chestnut hair with striking grey eyes, that change colour based on her emotions. She is quite slight in build but possesses an elegance and grace that draws attention. Her heart-shaped space with high cheekbones and expressive eyes give her a refined yet approachable beauty.

The daughter of Sir Edmund Ainsworth, Lucy was raised in a privileged environment with a forward-thinking education. Her father, recognising her intelligence and curiosity, ensured she received an education far beyond the norm for women of her time, including financial management and estate operations. She spent her childhood at her father's estate in Scotland, where she was allowed to run wild, doted on by her father, since her mother died soon after her birth. As the daughter of a rich but minor noble, she has managed to stay under the radar of London society. They only moved to London once her father became seriously ill. Her fiance is a great “catch”, Lord Reginald Ravenscroft. After realizing Reginald's true nature, she becomes Lady Lucy Simpson, using the funds she has inherited from her father, to flee to Cape Town, to Bellemonte. This enables her to live comfortably for the foreseeable future.
Background
Personality
Lucy is a resilient and deeply compassionate character whose bright and curious nature drives her to challenge societal norms and fight for justice. Her adventurous spirit is not merely a thirst for excitement but a necessary tool for survival, as she navigates a new life under a false identity after fleeing a dangerous situation in London. Her inner strength is evident in her determination to educate the slave children on her estate, reflecting her belief in the transformative power of knowledge. Yet, this courage is paired with a strategic mind, as she carefully balances her true self with the shallow persona she must present in public to protect herself and her mission, especially after becoming one of the Masked Crusaders.

Despite her outward bravery, Lucy is haunted by the trauma of her past and the guilt of her present circumstances, particularly the reality of slavery on her estate. These feelings fuel her resolve to make a difference, but they also expose her fear of being discovered. Lucy's character is a complex blend of vulnerability and strength, compassion and determination, making her a compelling protagonist who continually seeks to create a life where she can be true to herself while navigating the constraints of her society.
